Jaguar Land Rover discloses a data breach after recent cyberattack

Jaguar Land Rover has disclosed a data breach following a cyberattack that, in early September, led to the shutdown of systems to mitigate the incident and disrupted production at the Solihull plant as well as retail operations. UK dealers reported disruptions to car registrations and parts supply as a result.

The company initially said that customer data was not compromised, but later confirmed that some data had been affected and that it was informing the relevant regulators while continuing its forensic investigation. The automaker did not provide technical details about the breach, but it noted that the group Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters, behind recent UK retail cyberattacks, claimed responsibility for the JLR attack.

Jaguar Land Rover remains headquartered in the UK and has been owned by Tata Motors since 2008, with Jaguar and Land Rover brands sold in more than 120 countries. Follow-up communications indicate the investigation is ongoing and victims will be contacted if their data is found to be impacted.
