Hackers Target Casino Operator Boyd Gaming

Boyd Gaming has disclosed a data breach after hackers gained access to its internal IT systems, with the incident affecting employee information and the information of a limited number of other individuals. According to SecurityWeek’s report, the Las Vegas-based company said in a filing with the SEC that the cybersecurity incident has not impacted its properties or business operations.

The company is conducting an investigation with outside cybersecurity experts and law enforcement, and the probe has shown that some data was stolen from its systems.

As of the date of the filing, Boyd Gaming believes the incident will not have a material adverse effect on its financial condition or results of operations, and it notes it maintains a comprehensive cybersecurity insurance policy to cover incident response, forensic investigations, business interruptions, legal actions and regulatory fines, subject to policy limits.

It is unclear whether Boyd Gaming was targeted in a ransomware attack, and no ransomware group has taken credit for the incident, though such actors are sometimes active in the casino sector.
