Cyber Incident Halts US Bankruptcy Notices Nationwide

CyberSIXT Evidence Panel Source marked as original reporting

A cybersecurity incident has disrupted the US federal bankruptcy process by taking offline the systems that generate and distribute bankruptcy notices. The Administrative Office of the US Courts confirmed on 15 October that the IT systems and websites supporting the Bankruptcy Noticing Center (BNC) have been affected, bringing the BNC’s operations to a standstill.

BAE Systems operates the BNC infrastructure on behalf of the Federal Judiciary, and as a result, access to the BNC portals—bnc.uscourts[.]gov, bankruptcynotices.uscourts[.]gov, notices.uscourts[.]gov, and the National Creditor Registration Service—are all unavailable. The disruption has halted the production and distribution of bankruptcy notices for courts nationwide.

The judiciary stated it is coordinating with affected courts and with BAE Systems as the incident is investigated and restoration work is pursued. The notice provided no details about the nature of the cyber incident, when it began, whether any data was accessed or exfiltrated, or a timeline for service restoration. Infosecurity Magazine has contacted BAE Systems for comment.

At present, the impact is limited to the BNC’s ability to generate and disseminate notices; there is no public information confirming the extent of any data compromise, and no restoration date has been issued. The situation remains under active review by the judiciary and the responsible contractor.
