The End of “Robotic” AI: OpenAI Unlocks Sliders to Control ChatGPT’s Warmth and Tone
OpenAI has rolled out new ChatGPT personalization options for all users to fine-tune word choice and tone in responses, including whether replies should use more or fewer emojis. The updates follow earlier tweaks after complaints that ChatGPT’s replies had become overly flattering, with later adjustments aimed at making the model warmer and more approachable.
The new options include Gentle and considerate (more friendly and personable, or more professional and strictly factual), Enthusiastic (more energetic and vibrant, or calmer and neutral), as well as choices for how content is presented, such as headers and lists versus fuller paragraph text, and the frequency of emojis.
Users can adjust these under ChatGPT Settings → Personalization, and the rollout is described as fully completed, with updates available via the app store for mobile users and in-settings for web users. According to OpenAI, these configurable options are intended to let people tailor the experience to their own needs rather than rely on global adjustments. The article is dated 22 December 2025.
