Finally! YouTube Adds ‘Hide’ Button for End-Screen Pop-Ups to Improve Viewer Experience
YouTube has introduced a new Hide button to dismiss end-screen overlays, a feature that aims to improve the viewer experience by letting users focus on the content. The option is gradually rolling out across both web and mobile interfaces and is per-video, meaning viewers must click Hide again for similar prompts on subsequent videos. The button sits at the top-right corner of the player and allows the end-of-video overlays to disappear immediately.
According to official data, these changes have had only minimal impact on creators, with hides reducing views from overlays by less than 1.5%, and the removal of the watermark subscription button affecting overall subscription sources by a negligible 0.05%. YouTube described the adjustment as a response to community feedback and as a way to help viewers focus on the video they are watching, while also refining its desktop interface by removing the automatic subscription trigger from video watermarks. The move marks a notable, user-focused change in how end-screen elements are presented.
