Mozilla’s New Chapter: CEO Anthony Enzor-DeMeo to Transform Firefox into an AI-Powered Powerhouse
Mozilla has appointed Anthony Enzor-DeMeo as its new permanent CEO, signalling a renewed push to transform Firefox into an AI-powered browser. In a move described as opening a new chapter, Enzor-DeMeo says Mozilla has no plans to train its own models in the near term, but Firefox will next year introduce an AI mode that lets users choose among different models and products.
The approach will span a broad range of models—open-source, open, and proprietary alike—with some proprietary models hosted on Mozilla’s own cloud infrastructure so users may access services such as GPT, Claude, or Gemini directly within Firefox. Enzor-DeMeo has previously led the Firefox development organisation, and his elevation signals a renewed focus on the browser itself.
Firefox currently counts roughly 200 million monthly active users, and while Google’s search partnership remains Mozilla’s foremost revenue source, the foundation also emphasises diversifying its business models beyond search. Mozilla reiterates its commitment to an open web, even as it explores AI-enabled features and new revenue streams to sustain its mission.
