Qantas says ‘legal protections in place’ as ScatteredLAPSUS$Hunters group threatens to release personal data
Qantas says it is continuing to support customers impacted by its significant cyber breach, with a 24/7 support line and specialist identity protection advice, as a hacking group known as Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters threatens to release personal data. According to ABC (AU), the cybercrime collective has reportedly vowed to disclose stolen information from dozens of global firms linked to Salesforce, including Disney, Google, IKEA, Toyota and airlines Qantas, Air France and KLM, unless a ransom is paid.
Qantas states that it has legal protections in place through an injunction obtained via the NSW Supreme Court to prevent the stolen data from being accessed or released. DataBreaches[.]net notes that the injunction is limited in terms of who it covers and does not apply to all journalists and media. The site adds that criminals may pay little heed to court orders and could be “more determined to leak data out of spite” in one sense.
