Nevada's State Agencies Shutter in Wake of Cyberattack
Nevada’s state government shutters were prompted by a cyberattack first identified on Sunday, with the governor stating that in-person services were paused for two days while restoration efforts continue. Some state websites and phone lines became unavailable as agencies worked to restore functionality, and officials have said that counters will reopen when ready. According to Gov.
Joe Lombardo's office, the governor and the Governor's Technology Office are coordinating with state, local, tribal, and federal partners to restore services, with GTO using temporary routing and operational workarounds to maintain public access where feasible. The memo notes that the office will not disclose technical details of the attack, and authorities say there is no evidence that any personally identifiable information was compromised.
Nevadans were advised to be cautious of unsolicited calls, emails, or texts requesting personal information or financial payments, and the state emphasised that it will not ask for passwords or bank details by phone or email as services come back online. The August 27, 2025 report confirms two-day shutdown and ongoing recovery efforts.
