The Fix is Coming: Microsoft Acknowledges and Mitigates Widespread Driver Error 0x80070103

3 November 2025. Many users encounter the 0x80070103 error code when downloading and installing driver updates through Windows Update, a problem that has been frequently reported in the Feedback Hub, and Microsoft has officially acknowledged it, stating that the company is aware of the driver installation failures on Windows 11 and is taking steps to reduce their frequency. The issue is not the only one users may see, with 0x800f0983 and other variants also reported to hinder driver updates.

According to Microsoft, the measures are mitigative rather than definitive and may still allow occasional failures due to unforeseen system conditions. These enhancements were included in the Windows 11 25H2 Preview Update (KB5067036, Builds 26200.7019/26100.1079) released on 28 October, and are expected to roll out to all Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 stable users in the November B release, aiming for smoother and more reliable driver update installations.
