IN a joint operation involving Google, the FBI, and other partners, significant disruption was inflicted on the NetNut botnet, also known as Popa. This botnet was a malicious service utilizing millions of hijacked consumer devices to offer access to residential proxies for web data collection. Users were typically tricked into installing apps that shared their bandwidth, often without clear consent. Following the operation, many devices were taken off the botnet, impacting its operational capacity.
Users may experience performance issues if their devices are compromised, and it's recommended to be cautious of bandwidth-sharing apps and to use trusted software solutions.
