The End of Rationing: Google Boosts Gemini Limits and Unbundles Model Quotas

On 17 January 2026, Google signalled a recalibration of its Gemini quotas, effectively reducing the daily allocation for some subscribers while presenting new, tiered options. According to support.google[.]com, the changes transition from a shared resource pool to model-specific allocations, with non-paying users seeing diminished quotas as premium traffic is prioritised.

The company has also elevated daily limits for the Gemini Thinking model to 300 daily instances, and for Gemini Pro to 100 queries, aimed at those tackling complex mathematical or programming tasks. In addition, Google has introduced a high-tier, “capital-intensive” plan at $250 per month, offering 1,500 daily queries for Thinking and 500 for Pro.

The move also encourages subscriptions via family groups to lower per-capita costs, while premium patrons naturally retain more generous benefits amid the updated framework.
