Japanese retailer Muji halted online sales after a ransomware attack on logistics partner
Muji said online sales were halted after a ransomware attack disrupted its logistics partner Askul, affecting deliveries and the retailer’s online store functions. The incident disrupted order processing and access to the Muji app services, with Askul reporting a system outage due to a ransomware infection and that it was investigating the extent of the impact, including potential leaks of customer data.
The Muji update noted that services and features were unavailable, and that the reopening date had not yet been decided, with the company apologising for any inconvenience. The article adds that Muji employs more than 24,500 people and generates around $4 billion in annual revenue. It also mentions that Askul suspended key operations such as online and fax orders, shipping, new user registrations, returns, and customer support lines as part of the disruption. As of the piece’s publication, no ransomware gang had claimed responsibility for the attack on Askul.
