Holiday Heist: 200,000 Fake Shops & Amazon Clones Target Black Friday

Cybersecurity researchers have identified a network of over 200,000 fraudulent online stores exploiting the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping frenzy. Two main clusters of fake storefronts were uncovered:

1. **Cluster A: Amazon Typosquatters** - This cluster includes over 750 sites impersonating Amazon, using deceptive tactics like typosquatted domains (e.g., atoztreasure.com) and urgency messaging to trick consumers. Payments are processed through unflagged shell merchant websites, increasing the risk of fraud.

2. **Cluster B: .Shop Avalanche** - This larger cluster consists of over 200,000 .shop domains mimicking various brands. It employs automated templates and recurring code to create a vast network of scams.

**Consumer Advice:** Shoppers are advised to verify URLs, check for redirection during checkout, and ignore false urgency indicators to avoid falling victim to these scams.
