How to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) on your Facebook account
Posted on 6 October 2025, Malwarebytes explains that two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra login step and dramatically boosts security, even though it isn’t completely fool-proof. The guide outlines how to enable 2FA on Facebook across Android, iOS and the web, with the process centred in the Accounts Center under Password and security.
It covers choosing a preferred method from authentication apps (recommended, such as Google Authenticator or Authy), text message (SMS) or WhatsApp codes, a security key (USB or Bluetooth), or recovery codes for backup. For each platform, you re-enter your password to receive a one-time code to confirm your identity, then complete the on-screen steps to finish setup. The article notes that with 2FA, an attacker would need an additional factor beyond a stolen password, making hijacking far harder.
It also advises enabling 2FA on all important accounts, including messaging and social media. Overall, the guidance emphasises a quick, few-minute setup that can prevent hours or days of stress later.
