MacBook’s Virtual Ring Light May Come to Windows 11 via PowerToys Edge Light

The article, published on 18 November 2025, explains that the forthcoming macOS 26.2 update, currently in testing, adds a virtual ring of light around the display edges to illuminate the user’s face for video calls. It notes that Microsoft is interested in bringing a similar enhancement to Windows 11, potentially through PowerToys in combination with the Windows Edge Light utility.

Windows Edge Light is described as an open-source tool that casts a white, glowing halo around the screen’s perimeter to improve lighting during video calls or for ambient effects during streaming. Microsoft is reportedly in discussions with the Windows Edge Light developer to integrate this feature into PowerToys so users can enable a virtual light ring easily.

The piece also states that it remains unclear whether the integration has officially begun, and that Windows Edge Light can be downloaded from GitHub and used immediately by those who want to try the effect early.
