RESEARCH from Natto Thoughts reveals that China's military procurement system has suspended or banned over a dozen cybersecurity vendors due to contract bidding misconduct. Between 2021 and 2026, there were at least 21 enforcement actions. The penalties follow a three-tier system by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) ranging from private warnings to lifetime bans. Notable companies affected include Beijing TopSec Network Security and Venustech Group, with varying levels of sanctions.
Despite these actions, the PLA continues to rely on these firms for modernization efforts, indicating that the crackdown is aimed at professionalizing defense acquisition rather than diminishing China's cybersecurity capabilities.
