The Return of the Guide: Yahoo Scout Challenges Google with AI-Native Search

Yahoo Scout is described as an AI-native “Answer Engine” that is powered by Anthropic’s Claude models and currently available in a Beta iteration, with aims to integrate across Yahoo’s Mail, News, Sports and Finance ecosystems. The system combines public web data with Yahoo’s proprietary archives to curate comprehensive responses, rather than simply presenting hyperlinks.

Yahoo says the interface will feature interactive media, structured lists and tables, with strict source attribution to curb hallucinations and build user trust. Notably, Yahoo has eschewed partnerships with OpenAI or Google in favour of Anthropic, emphasising Claude’s logical rigour and safety protocols.

Its strategy is to operate as an “Intelligence Platform” across Yahoo Finance, Mail, Sports, Shopping and News, distilling earnings reports, providing concise AI summaries and key takeaways to streamline information consumption.
