Discord blamed a vendor for its data breach — now the vendor says it was ‘not hacked’
Discord blamed a vendor for its data breach, but the vendor says it was not hacked. According to Discord, the incident affected a limited number of users who had interacted with its Customer Support or Trust & Safety teams, and of the accounts impacted globally, approximately 70,000 users may have had government-ID photos exposed that the vendor used to review age-related appeals.
5CA, the vendor, posted on its website that none of 5CA’s systems were involved and that 5CA has not handled any government-issued IDs for this client, adding that all its platforms and systems remain secure. The Verge reported the situation, and the article notes that the breach was described as occurring with a third party service provider rather than Discord itself.
In the vendor’s own statement, it emphasises that the breach did not involve its systems and that client data remains protected under strict data protection and security controls.
