FRENCH President Emmanuel Macron urged wealthy democracies to collaborate on regulating advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems during a recent high-level meeting with top AI executives. Macron highlighted the necessity of international partnerships to manage the risks associated with AI, criticizing the U.S. for its recent directive that restricted foreign use of Anthropic's AI models, which he deemed a nationalist reaction.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman echoed these sentiments, calling for the establishment of an international forum to create globally accepted AI safety standards. The discussions, dominated by concerns over American dominance in AI tech, included key representatives from the G7 nations and invited guests from Brazil, India, Kenya, and South Korea.
