THE Nuvem subsea cable, financed and controlled by Google, links Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to Sines, Portugal, via Bermuda and the Azores, spanning 6,900 kilometers with a capacity of 384 Tbps. This project enhances internet connectivity between the US and Europe and aims to establish Bermuda as a mid-Atlantic transit hub. The cable consists of sixteen fiber pairs, each rated at 24 Tbps.
The initiative aligns with Google's strategy to improve redundancy in data transfer across networks and to meet the growing demand for data related to artificial intelligence. Google has previously invested in other cables, demonstrating its commitment to owning critical infrastructure.
