Russian Police Bust Suspected Meduza Infostealer Developers

Russian police arrested three young IT specialists in or around Moscow who are suspected of developing and selling the Meduza credential-harvesting malware, according to Bank Info Security.

Authorities from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, together with police investigators, charged the men with developing and supplying the information-stealing malware and tied the operation to an attack that breached a government institution in Astrakhan region in May, said a ministry spokeswoman in a Russian-language post to Telegram.

Police also seized computing equipment, communication devices and payment cards, though the suspects’ identities and dates of arrest were not disclosed, nor were terms of any bail. They are accused of gaining unauthorized access to data of one of the institutions in the Astrakhan region, a Russian province bordering the Caspian Sea. The article notes that the arrests occurred in or around Moscow, and that authorities did not specify further details.
