iOS 26 Digital ID: Your Passport Is Coming to Apple Wallet

According to Apple, iOS 26’s Digital ID feature will support adding passports, allowing users to store their passports directly within the Wallet app, with rollout expected in late 2025. The iOS 26 feature page notes the release will come “later this year” and, at least initially, will be limited to U.S. passports. The Digital ID builds on the Wallet app’s existing driver’s licence integration, enabling a digital passport to be presented at U.S. customs checkpoints in place of a physical document.

Beyond travel, a passport stored in Wallet could also serve as identity and age verification in supported apps, websites, or even retail stores. Apple has not disclosed whether this feature will be expanded to other countries, and the firm clarifies that digital passports will be recognised only at customs checkpoints, meaning travellers outside the United States will still need to carry their physical documents. 24 September 2025.
