Ransomware Attack Disrupts Local Emergency Alert System Across US
A ransomware attack on the OnSolve CodeRED emergency alert system has caused significant disruptions across various U.S. states, affecting local governments and law enforcement's ability to send emergency notifications. The attack, attributed to the Inc Ransom group, resulted in a data breach where user data, including names, email addresses, and passwords, was compromised.
Although the national Emergency Alert System was not impacted, many local agencies are considering canceling their contracts with CodeRED and transitioning to a new platform. The cybercriminals claimed to have gained access on November 1 and deployed ransomware on November 10, demanding a $100,000 ransom. Some stolen data has reportedly been put up for sale, although local notifications indicate that it has not yet been published online.
