British Department Store Harrods Warns Customers That Some Personal Details Taken in Data Breach
Harrods has warned that some online customers’ personal data may have been taken in a breach of its online systems, with the company stating that names and contact details were affected but that account passwords and payment details were not included. The firm said the incident was isolated and contained, and that it had informed affected customers accordingly.
Four people were arrested in July on suspicion of involvement in cyberattacks against Harrods and two other British retailers, and the suspects were bailed pending further inquiries, according to Associated Press. The securityweek report also notes that the breach was not connected to a separate May incident when Harrods restricted internet access across its sites as a precaution.
On Friday, BBC and other British media reported that hackers stole information about thousands of children from Kido, a London nursery chain, with the Metropolitan Police stating inquiries into “a ransomware attack on a London-based organisation” were ongoing.
