A New Race for Silicon: Apple Secures Half of TSMC’s 2nm Chip Production
According to DigiTimes, Apple has reportedly reserved nearly half of TSMC’s 2nm production capacity, with the A20 processor powering the iPhone 18 series slated for 2026. TSMC confirmed that volume production of its 2nm (N2) process will begin in Q4 2025, with initial fabs located in Hsinchu Baoshan and Kaohsiung, and a monthly output of 45,000–50,000 wafers, planned to exceed 100,000 wafers per month by 2026.
The process uses an advanced backside power delivery architecture and is claimed to deliver a 15% performance uplift and a 30% power efficiency improvement over the current 3nm node. Apple, alongside Qualcomm, has aggressively secured production slots, keeping wafer pricing in the region of up to $30,000 per substrate, while Apple remains TSMC’s premier launch customer for advanced nodes.
Beyond Apple and Qualcomm, TSMC plans to begin supplying chips to NVIDIA, Google, Amazon’s Annapurna Labs, and more than 10 other major firms starting in 2027, with full utilisation targeted by 2026.
