Windows 11 Bug Makes Lock Screen Password Icon Vanish After Update

A recent Microsoft support notice reveals a bug in Windows 11 where the password-login icon on the lock screen disappears after installing the August 2025 preview update or subsequent cumulative updates. Users typically see a PIN option first, but without the password icon, they may mistakenly believe PIN is the only login method. Although the functionality to switch to password login remains, users are frustrated and often resort to resetting their credentials through the 'Forgot PIN' process. Microsoft is investigating the issue and plans to release a fix in an upcoming update.
