The Digital Sanctuary: Apple’s 10 Essential Privacy Rules for 2026

IN honour of International Data Privacy Day on 28 January, Apple has curated ten integrated privacy features for the iPhone and the wider ecosystem, urging users to review their configurations to shield personal data. According to Apple, Safari Private Browsing and Authentication now automatically locks idle private sessions, requiring Face ID or a passcode to access, while Safari also blocks known trackers pre-emptively.

The on-device approach continues with Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which uses machine learning to curb cross-site trackers. The Passwords App, introduced with iOS 18, consolidates iCloud Keychain, Passkeys and Wi‑Fi credentials and flags compromised or weak passwords. Hide My Email generates random aliases to protect identities, and Recording Indicators provide a visible alert with an orange orb for microphone activity and a green orb for camera use.

Additional controls include sharing only an approximate location (about 26 square kilometres) and Background Tracking Notifications that prompt users to reassess permissions, plus the option to lock or hide sensitive apps with Face ID. Private Cloud Compute is highlighted as the hub of Apple Intelligence, guaranteeing a stateless environment where data is not stored or accessible during cloud-based AI tasks.
