Rethinking Cloud Investigations
Cloud breaches are surging as cloud adoption grows, with 82% of breaches now involving cloud-stored data, according to IBM Cost of a Data Breach, 2023. The piece notes that 65% of organisations experienced a cloud-related incident in the past year, and of those, only 9% were detected within the first hour while 62% took more than 24 hours to remediate, according to Cybersecurity Insiders, Cloud Security Report 2025.
Despite the shift to cloud, many investigations still rely on legacy on-prem approaches, and 65% of organisations spend about 3–5 days longer investigating in the cloud than on premises. The article outlines four key problems: ephemeral workloads that leave little forensic footprint, fragmented tooling across multiple providers, SOC overload from thousands of alerts, and the cost of delay in containment.
It argues for a new cloud investigations approach—automated evidence acquisition, unified multi-cloud visibility across AWS, Azure, and GCP, accelerated investigation workflows, and empowered SOC teams with contextualised data.
