Dolby Vision 2 Arrives: A New Imaging Standard Promises “Beyond HDR” Quality
Ahead of IFA 2025, Dolby Laboratories has unveiled its latest imaging standard, Dolby Vision 2, which it touts as the next evolutionary leap beyond existing HDR specifications, promising a visual experience that feels “beyond HDR.” According to Dolby Laboratories, the first wave of support will be led by Hisense, alongside a partnership with Canal+, to drive broader content adoption.
At the heart of Dolby Vision 2 lies the Content Intelligence system, which uses AI to dynamically optimise display output by considering the video, ambient lighting conditions and scene characteristics. For example, Precision Black preserves intricate details in dark sequences, while Light Sense adapts brightness to the surrounding environment, and specialised modes—Sports and Gaming Optimization—enhance motion clarity for fast-moving content.
The standard also introduces Bi-directional Tone Mapping and Authentic Motion, with Dolby Vision 2 offered in two tiers: Dolby Vision 2 Max for flagship TVs and a standard edition for mainstream models. Hisense will be the first brand to integrate it, debuting in premium RGB-MiniLED panels, as Canal+ begins delivering content in Dolby Vision 2 ahead of CES 2026.
