SpaceX to buy Cursor AI tool for $60 billion amid coding race

SpaceX is set to acquire Cursor, an advanced AI programming tool, for $60 billion. This acquisition aims to enhance SpaceX’s competitive position against rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic in the AI-assisted coding domain. The deal involves a stock merger with Anysphere, Cursor’s parent company, and is expected to finalize by Q3 2026. Should the acquisition fail for specific reasons, SpaceX would incur penalties of up to $10 billion. Cursor's existing partnerships with major tech entities, such as Google and Anthropic, may be affected as the integration proceeds.
