Foster City goes offline after cybersecurity breach

ACCORDING to The Daily Journal, Foster City’s network has been moved offline days after a cybersecurity breach that was “widely impacting city services,” disrupting phone and email systems outside of emergency response. City staff cannot make or receive calls or respond to emails until services resume, and the city is investigating the breach’s cause.

The city has already taken measures to maintain continuity of essential services, with 911 working and emergency response personnel available, while City Hall remains open but with limited services. The breach first occurred on Thursday, 19 March, and the city said it was working to declare a state of emergency to secure financial help from outside agencies. No group has claimed responsibility for what sounds like a crippling ransomware attack at this point. Read more at The Daily Journal.
