MCAFEE Labs has reported ongoing threats from the WeedHack malware campaign, even after the takedown of its command-and-control infrastructure. The campaign uses fake Minecraft client websites to distribute malware that steals sensitive user data, including passwords and cryptocurrency. The malware's spread has been facilitated by search engine optimization (SEO) tactics that elevate these malicious sites in search results, leading unsuspecting users to download harmful files.
McAfee identified more than 6,300 attempts to access these sites in just a month, continuing the trend of increasing daily infections. The report emphasizes the importance of downloading software only from trusted sources to avoid falling victim to these scams.
