NVIDIA NVDebug Tool Vulnerability Lets Attackers Gain Elevated System Access
NVIDIA has disclosed a critical vulnerability in its NVDebug tool that could allow attackers to gain elevated system access, execute code, or tamper with data. The security bulletin, issued on 8 September 2025, describes three high-severity flaws in NVDebug that affect all versions prior to 1.7.0 on x86_64 and arm64-SBSA systems.
According to NVIDIA, the flaws include CVE-2025-23342 (privilege escalation via NVDebug tool leading to code execution and data tampering) with a base score of 8.2, CVE-2025-23343 (file write vulnerability enabling restricted component tampering) rated 7.6, and CVE-2025-23344 (code execution on the host as a non-privileged user with privilege escalation) rated 7.3.
The company urges users to update to version 1.7.0 or later to mitigate these risks and notes that exploitation could enable arbitrary commands, denial of service, or data disclosure if multiple flaws are chained. Beyond updating, organisations are advised to monitor security bulletins, restrict access to developer tools, and report anomalies through NVIDIA’s security page.
