Fake Apple Cash offer lures users into app promotions
A Malwarebytes investigation describes a fake offer promising a $750 Apple Cash reward in exchange for a “device verification.” The page is not affiliated with Apple and instead redirects users to app offers via affiliate tracking links.
According to the article, the site’s claimed steps – an Eligibility Check, a Device Verification, and a Claim Reward – are staged: the eligibility timer merely labels four items (including Location: United States) and lights them up on a schedule, while the “device verification” prompts users to download an app called Reco Social, create an account, and play a game.
Ten minutes after tapping Download & Open App, the page reports “Device Verified Successfully” regardless of actual installation or activity, and the purported “Claim Your $750” button simply reopens the same link rather than crediting any reward. The page funnels users through tracking links and a TikTok pixel to monetise clicks and installs via affiliate promotions.
The report notes several deceptive urgency tactics: a “47 spots left today” counter that resets, randomised “claimed $750” pop-ups drawn from a pool, and a 10‑minute “Session Expires” countdown that has no real consequence. It emphasises that the destination links point to affiliate networks and revshare schemes rather than any real Apple payout, and that nothing on the page verifies devices or preserves a genuine reward.
The harms include handing over personal data, potentially spending in promoted apps, and setting users up for future scams. Malwarebytes recommends using Browser Guard or Web Protection, verifying Apple Cash only in Settings, and reporting suspicious material to Apple or fraud authorities.
