Microsoft to Retire Popular Editor Extensions on Edge and Chrome
Microsoft has announced that its AI-powered Editor browser extensions for Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome will be retired, with the change taking effect on 31 October 2025, according to GBHackers On Security. The core capabilities will be embedded directly into Edge’s built-in proofing experience, allowing users to benefit from grammar, spelling, and style enhancements without a separate extension.
No administrative action is required, and users can continue using the extensions until retirement, after which they will automatically transition to the enhanced native experience. Once retired, the Editor extensions will no longer receive updates or support, though the main features—grammar checks, spelling corrections and stylistic suggestions—will remain available via Edge. Administrators and end users can toggle the integrated feature from Edge’s Settings > Languages and grammar section if needed.
