Mythos AI Could Speed Up Cyber Attacks, CISOs Warn

CISOS are warned that Mythos, Anthropic’s cybersecurity-focused AI model, could collapse the time between vulnerability discovery and exploitation, accelerating high-velocity attacks. According to the Cloud Security Alliance, the AI Vulnerability Storm requires organisations to build a Mythos-ready security programme, emphasising that the defender’s basics—segmentation, egress filtering, multifactor authentication and defence-in-depth—remain crucial but must be deployed more aggressively.

The CSA notes a temporary window created by Project Glasswing, during which major software providers can identify and fix flaws before Mythos goes broadly public; beyond that, patches will have to come faster and staffing levels may face increased pressure. The report advocates fighting AI with AI, urging automated security assessments and the use of AI agents to close the speed gap with attackers, while acknowledging this could expand the attack surface with new vulnerabilities.

It also recommends simulations of simultaneous, high-severity incidents and regular playbooks to cope with shorter adversary timelines. As Mike Johnson, CISO at Rivian, warned, by the end of the year Mythos-level capabilities could be in the hands of any attacker, underscoring the urgency for a proactive, mythos-ready approach.
