OpenAI Acquires Statsig in $1.1B Deal, Shakes Up Leadership

On 2 September 2025, OpenAI announced the $1.1 billion acquisition of Statsig, a company specialising in A/B testing and product analytics, while initiating a major organisational restructuring. According to OpenAI, Fidji Simo joined as CEO of Applications on 18 August and has begun sweeping personnel changes to position the applications division as the driving force behind ChatGPT and Codex growth.

Under the new structure, Statsig founder Vijaye Raji will become CTO of Applications, and Srinivas Narayanan, formerly head of engineering, has been promoted to CTO of B2B Applications to push expansion into enterprise and government markets. Kevin Weil moves from Chief Product Officer to VP of Scientific AI within OpenAI’s research division, working with the Chief Scientist to advance foundational technologies.

The product team will report directly to Fidji Simo, creating a clearer division between research and applications layers, while Statsig’s team will merge into OpenAI but operate independently from its Seattle office during a phased integration. The deal remains subject to regulatory approval.
