NVIDIA Unveils First Blackwell Wafer Made in US at TSMC Arizona Fab, Marking Production Milestone
On 20 October 2025, NVIDIA announced the first Blackwell wafer manufactured on U.S. soil at TSMC’s Arizona fab (Fab 21) in Phoenix, marking a production milestone. The wafer forms the foundation of NVIDIA’s next‑generation AI chip and signals that Blackwell is ready to enter volume production in the United States. The event underscored a strategic step to strengthen domestic chip manufacturing and resilience of critical supply chains.
According to NVIDIA’s earlier data, the Blackwell platform delivers up to 25‑fold cost and energy efficiency improvements compared to the Hopper architecture for specific AI workloads. The TSMC Arizona facility is a cornerstone of the U.S. CHIPS Act strategy, and the site’s production aligns with NVIDIA’s aim to insulate itself from shifting tariffs and geopolitical tensions.
During the event, Jensen Huang highlighted the historical significance of manufacturing the most important chip in the United States by the most advanced fab, here at TSMC’s Arizona facility.
