THE Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) reports that about 26% of identity crime victims in the U.S. experienced multiple incidents within a year, up from 24% the previous year. The increase is attributed to more complex identity crimes, particularly unauthorized device access, which now represents 27% of incidents. Account takeovers make up 50% of misuse cases, while fraud in employment is significant among minors.
Victims without financial loss had a 53% resolution rate, contrasting with only 9% for those who lost money. Experts emphasize the need for organizations to improve incident response and incorporate AI-driven technologies to streamline processes.
