Everest group claimed the hack of Sweden’s power grid operator Svenska kraftnät
Everest ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack on Sweden’s state-owned power grid operator Svenska kraftnät, and added the organisation to its Tor data leak site, claiming 280 GB of data was exfiltrated. Svenska kraftnät disclosed that the breach targeted an isolated external file transfer system and that the electricity system itself was not affected.
The company said a data breach was detected on Saturday evening and that law enforcement and local authorities have been notified as an intensive investigation continues to determine the scope and potential consequences. Officials emphasised that mission-critical systems remained unaffected and that there is no current indication of an impact on electricity supply or power transmission.
The organisation is continuing to secure the affected systems and analyse the extent of the data leak, with updates to be provided as more information becomes available, according to Svenska kraftnät.
