The Digital Ego: Google Gemini Now Learns Your Life via Gmail and Photos

Google has announced a beta-enabled “Personal Intelligence” suite for its Gemini ecosystem, enabling it to securely interface with and analyse a user’s Gmail, Google Photos and YouTube archives through cross-source reasoning. Currently in beta, the feature is initially available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers within the United States.

According to Google, the main advantage lies in cross-source reasoning and granulated data extraction, with users opt-ing in by default and retaining sovereignty over which apps are linked. When enabled, Gemini can synthesize text, imagery and video metadata to provide tailored, contextually relevant answers, including examining Google Photos to suggest tyre models for a 2019 Honda SUV or extracting a licence plate number from a photo, and it can verify vehicle trims via Gmail receipts.

Google emphasises that the data accessed is used to fulfil specific requests and that training is restricted to filtered, anonymised prompts and responses rather than the raw inbox or photo library contents.
