Suspected cyberattack disrupts Circle K chain’s operations in Hong Kong

Circle K’s Hong Kong operations were disrupted by a suspected cyberattack, with a network disruption that has paralysed the chain for several days and forced nearly 400 outlets to suspend most electronic payments and loyalty services. The retailer said the incident, first reported over the weekend, affected e-payment systems, email services and loyalty programmes, though stores remain open and customers can still pay with cash or Octopus.

Circle K has said it cannot rule out a cyberattack and is acting to secure data and determine the cause, scope and extent of the breach, working with law enforcement and third-party forensics experts. The company’s statement was posted on Facebook on Monday. Read more at The Record.
