Evernote Relaunches as AI-First Note App with Semantic Search and OpenAI Assistant
Evernote has relaunched as an AI-first note app, introducing semantic search and an OpenAI-assisted capability as part of Evernote v11, the most significant update since its 2020 overhaul. Under the stewardship of Italian developer Bending Spoons, the update includes an AI Assistant co-developed with OpenAI that lets users search, generate, and expand content within notes using natural language prompts.
According to OpenAI, the assistant can organise data, insert scheduling information, and generate concise summaries, with additional features like automatic tagging and batch note management planned for future updates. A key advance is the Semantic Search, which interprets contextual meaning beyond exact keywords to surface relevant notes, such as returning results for a “Barcelona trip” even if the term Girona appears in related notes.
Evernote v11 also expands recording and transcription functions, building on AI Transcribe from 2024 to generate real-time summaries across all language versions. The rollout is currently for desktop and web, with mobile updates expected soon, and access to new features will initially be limited to premium subscribers, alongside announced pricing changes and a trial for free-tier users.
