Pornhub tells users to expect sextortion emails after data exposure
Pornhub has told its users to expect sextortion emails following a data exposure that affected Pornhub Premium members, with the company updating its online statement on the matter. The post notes that the individuals responsible for the incident have threatened to contact impacted Premium users directly, so recipients may receive emails claiming they have their personal information, although Pornhub says it will never ask for passwords or payment details by email.
Pornhub stressed that passwords, payment information and financial data were not exposed, and related communications concern data linked to a third-party Mixpanel incident—the breach at Mixpanel on 8 November 2025, which the firm says did not originate Pornhub data, according to Forbes. The article highlights that sextortion is a common monetisation tactic for stolen data, and indicates that only Premium members’ data had been exposed so far.
Malwarebytes also offers practical steps to stay safe, including treating such emails as scams, avoiding payment or password sharing, enabling MFA, and reporting suspicions using its Scam Guard framework.
