WhatsApp Interoperability Live: Meta Confirms DMA Integration with BirdyChat and Haiket

Meta has announced that, to comply with the EU Digital Markets Act, WhatsApp will soon be interoperable with two third‑party messaging services, BirdyChat and Haiket. After months of limited testing, the company says WhatsApp can operate smoothly with both partners and the integration will rollout very soon across Europe.

When available, users on Android and iOS will be able to exchange text messages, images, voice notes, videos and files across these platforms, with end‑to‑end encryption at a level equivalent to WhatsApp’s protections as required by the DMA. European users will receive opt‑in guidance within WhatsApp’s Settings menu over the coming months, and participation will be entirely optional.

Notably, group-chat interoperability is not available at launch and will be introduced only when partner services are technically prepared to support it. The article is dated 15 November 2025.
