Microsoft Access 2016/2019 Is Nearing End-of-Life

Microsoft Access 2016/2019 is nearing its end of life, with support for the Access 2016 and 2019 editions set to end on 14 October 2025, the same date that the Office 2016 and 2019 suites reach end of support. The article notes that while users may continue to run Access 2016/2019 after this date, Microsoft will no longer provide feature enhancements or security patches, and newly discovered vulnerabilities will remain unpatched, with extended support unavailable to enterprise customers.

This situation raises security risks for organisations that persist with these expired editions, as unpatched vulnerabilities could accumulate and increase exposure to exploitation and attacks. Microsoft is advised to migrate to supported versions such as Access 2021/2024, with a stronger recommendation to move to Microsoft 365, where Access is included in the subscription and supported for the full licence term. Access 2016/2019 were delivered as part of the Office 2016 and 2019 suites, and their lifecycle ending aligns with those suites’ end of support.
