PRESIDENT Trump signed National Security Presidential Memorandum-12 (NSPM-12) aimed at enhancing the cybersecurity of National Security Systems (NSS), which are crucial for processing classified information. The memorandum introduces a governance structure for NSS, ensuring civilian-operated NSS receive equivalent cybersecurity protections as government-operated ones.
It reestablishes the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS), which will set cybersecurity standards, issue emergency directives, and promote collaboration across agencies. The Director of the NSA is appointed as the National Manager for NSS to provide technical guidance and respond to threats. Agencies must also maintain updated inventories of their NSS.
