Suspected Russian hacker reportedly detained in Thailand, faces possible US extradition

The DataBreaches[.]Net report says a Russian citizen reportedly detained on Phuket on suspicion of cybercrimes and held in Bangkok as authorities consider extradition to the United States. According to the Russian Embassy in Thailand, consular access is being sought and the circumstances are being clarified with the Thai authorities.

Thai police told TASS that the suspect was arrested on Phuket in coordination with U.S. authorities and later transferred to Bangkok, where they are being held pending extradition to the U.S. The Phuket Express previously claimed police had detained a 35-year-old “world-famous hacker” who had been hiding in Thailand after cyberattacks on European and U.S. government agencies, though the suspect’s name, alias and specific crimes were not disclosed. Police seized laptops, mobile phones and digital wallets during a raid carried out with assistance from the FBI.
