Google Search Redesign Hides Option to Dismiss Ads, Forcing Users to Scroll Past ‘Sponsored Results’ Blocks

Google has redesigned its search ads display to consolidate all text-based ads into a single “Sponsored Results” section at the top of the results page, with a similar block appearing at the bottom. The company states that each block will display no more than four ads, and the ad size remains unchanged, but users must scroll through the entire section before they can tap a button to hide all sponsored listings.

According to Google, the redesign is intended to make it easier for users to navigate and view the top portion of the search page, though the article notes it may increase the likelihood of users scrolling past top-of-page content and AI-generated summaries. The change is described as being rolled out worldwide across mobile and desktop platforms. The piece argues the move is primarily about boosting ad engagement and revenue, even as it risks affecting user experience by keeping promos visible for longer.
