Dutch Teens Arrested for Allegedly Helping Russian Hackers
Two teenage boys, both 17, were arrested in the Netherlands amid suspicions of spying for pro-Russian hackers. The pair were allegedly approached by the hackers on Telegram, and one was reportedly seen walking near Europol and Eurojust headquarters and the Canadian embassy while carrying a Wi-Fi sniffer.
Prosecutors confirmed the arrests, with the investigation focusing on links to “government-sponsored interference.” One boy was placed on home bail with an ankle monitor, while the other remained in custody, and their hearing is expected within two weeks. Police also executed a search warrant at the home of the boy who remained in custody, seizing electronic equipment; the father of that boy described his son as computer savvy and a heavy gamer. Similar incidents involving individuals recruited by Russian hackers were reported recently in Germany and Ukraine. according to BBC
